Depending on where you are, the weather might be getting colder, the days shorter, and there might even be snow in the forecast. Join the University of St. Michael’s College (USMC) community to celebrate the end of 2020 and the start of the holiday season!

With the pandemic, events this holiday season will look very different from those of past years. Although restrictions mean that all events will be held online, there will still be many taking place. From talent shows to donation drives, there is something for everyone!

The biggest event is the USMC Winter Festival which will be hosted by a number of different St. Mike’s clubs over three days. It kicks off on December 4th with a cookies and ornaments decorating event hosted by the Commuter Dons from 4-6 p.m. EST. Show off your talents at the annual Winter Kelly’s Korner over Zoom on December 5th at 11 a.m. EST. Finally, join the USMC community for an online traditional Holiday Dinner on December 6th at 6 p.m. EST. Come hang out, socialize, and play games with both old and new friends for amazing prizes!

The St. Michael’s College Student Union (SMCSU) will also be hosting some crafts and de-stressor events over Zoom during the exam season. Stay tuned for more details.

The holiday season is also known as the time to give back. Here are some donation drives currently running at USMC:

USMC, campus police, and the Society of St. Vincent De Paul are hosting an annual Christmas Toy drive for families in need. Due to the pandemic, they will be accepting $25 and $50 gift cards for retailers such as Loblaws or Walmart to help families buy gifts for their children. Donations can be made virtually at https://stmikes.utoronto.ca/christmas-toy-drive-2020-donations/ or in person at the USMC front desk or the campus police station.

The Food Mission Toronto is collaborating with U of T Trek for Teens to host a Donation Drive for Homeless Youth. They are accepting houseware, hygiene products, socks, and underwear from now until December 15th. Boxes are set up at Brennan Hall in USMC and Morrison Hall at University College. All donations will go to Kennedy House.

New events are always coming up, check the SMC Events Calendar for more!
