A friendly reminder that reading week is for anything BUT reading

You know, I think I’m a good friend. Not a great one, but definitely a good one. Like I’ll ride for you, but I probably will not die for you. So when my friend Lana, Lifestyle Editor (shoutout lanalu), texted me that she needed an article by tonight, I figured taking a late penalty on my problem set was a small price to pay.
So without further ado, my fellow hoikety choiks, here is a recap of a (reading) week in the life of USMC’s, dare I say U of T’s, most interesting student. Fair warning, I live an action-packed life.

Picture this: It’s a Monday, the day before yet another single Valentine’s day, and the day after Rihanna made her comeback… SO WHY am I sitting in Robarts?! Safe to say I was distraught. I was prepared for a miserable week when suddenly my friend Kavya threw me a lifeline. “So for Reading Week, what’s the plan?” Turns out it’s next week, so I immediately slam my laptop shut and decide to treat my degree like it’s optional for the rest of the week.

Started off my break with a bang, scratch that multiple bangs, as I mustered up enough school pride to go support our Varsity Blues Men’s Hockey team during playoffs. Being a U of T student means taking lots of Ls and that night was no different. The Blues fell to TMU of all teams, but they tried their best so yay for them I suppose.

For the first time in weeks, I did nothing all day long. I decided, for self-care and not procrastination purposes, to spend the day in bed binging Netflix and reading the silliest romance novel I could get my hands on. On a serious note folks, taking care of your physical and mental health will always be more important than your degree, so please rest whenever you can.

This is when my week started getting a bit more interesting. I got all dolled up to take my graduation pictures; they looked great by the way (just take my word for it). Then I met up with my friends for an evening of Jamaican patties (bussin’) and more Varsity Blues Hockey, this time against Lakehead. We lost.

At this point, I was cursing past Roxanne for not taking the week off work but it’s alright because I’m watching a movie with my friends tonight… Once again I am disappointed. We watched the Blues Basketball Team lose against LAURIER, shed some tears, then watched the worst movie of the decade, Teen Wolf: The Movie.
