Christmas is only about a month away, and it’s time to start getting into the holiday festivities! There are lots of things to prepare for this month with exams on the way, but it’s okay if you want to have a bit of extra fun too. These five things to do this holiday season are a perfect way to destress and get in the holly jolly mood with your family and friends.
The Aurora Winter Festival
The Aurora Winter Festival returns to Toronto for another exciting year full of holiday fun and magic. Located at Ontario Place, West Island, the Aurora Festival is filled with rides, games, skating, and vendors to visit in the marketplace, along with wonderful holiday characters to meet in this mystical world. General admission to enter is $17.99 plus tax, but you can get an extra 15% off with your Presto card.
The Toronto Christmas Market
Every year the Toronto Christmas Market opens up in the Distillery District with vendors up and down the alley and ongoing entertainment on the Main Stage. It is free to enter during the week, but admission charges begin on Fridays at 6 p.m. through Sunday and are $8 to $12 (depending on when you make your purchase). The Market will be open until December 22.
A Nutcracker Christmas at the Castle
If you’re looking for something a little more than just walking through a marketplace, Casa Loma will be open for its annual “A Nutcracker Christmas at the Castle,” where you will find a wide range of activities and performances throughout the holiday season, such as skating performances and shows by illusionist Professor Wick.
DJ Skate Night
Every Saturday night, Harbourfront’s Natrel Ice Rink is open to the public to skate with Toronto’s top DJs playing songs as you skate along. In case the holiday and exam season keeps you too busy, the DJ Skate Nights are open every weekend, from December 14 to February 15, as well as New Year’s Eve, too!
Holiday Fair in the Square
You will find this Holiday Fair in the middle of Nathan Phillips Square. You can visit the Artisan Village for many unique things to buy, the loads of food trucks to choose from, and watch performances, such as the Fire Guy and characters on stilts. You can also enjoy rides, skating, visits with Santa Claus, and the Jackson Triggs Polar Point Bar (for those who are of age, of course). The fair is open December 7–23, and is only closed on Mondays (and Dec 23). It is free to enter.
