An Interview with a St.Mike’s Student
Karen Maktabi, Associate Lifestyle Editor
What’s your name, what program and year are you currently in at UofT?
My name is Lana Kamal, I’m a third year studying Political Science.
What’s your favorite aspect of the program you’re in, what made you choose it?
The best part of being in political science is the constant discussion with other students during lectures and tutorials, which opens you up to perspectives that differ from your own.
Looking back, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I can’t really answer this question, since I guess even as a kid I never really had one passion, I found interest in so many things which made it hard for me to limit myself to one dream job. I always wanted to explore different fields like fashion design, being a doctor, politician, journalist, and so much more. There is something interesting in everything, which is why I could never pick just one.
If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would you choose to go?
If I could travel anywhere in the world it would probably be to Hawaii or the Maldives, since I have always wanted to go somewhere tropical and near the ocean.
What’s your favorite quote/your life motto?
“Remember that hope is a powerful weapon, when all else is lost” – Nelson Mandela
What would you say is your go-to spot in the GTA? (you can specify restaurant, cafe, bar etc.)/ What’s your favorite season in Toronto?
I’d recommend Riverdale Park, especially during sunset hours.
