Things you need to create the ultimate holiday atmosphere
Alessia Baptista, Lifestyle Editor
With the holidays just a few weeks away, and Toronto now in a second lockdown, it’s important that we make this holiday season extra special. Here are ten winter essentials that will surely add a little extra joy to your world:
- A warm beverage
While we’re all pretty sad that iced coffee season has come to an end, the colder months are the perfect time for a nice warm beverage. All the holiday coffee’s are out now– but if that’s not your cup of tea, a hot chocolate or a cozy mug of tea are essential this winter season.
- A cozy sweater + blanket
Because we’re so used to those cold winters, it’s important we stay warm with a super cozy sweater or blanket indoors. Pair your blanket with your winter beverage of choice by the fire, and you’ll be nice and toasty.
- Some holiday tunes
What are the holidays without some festive tunes? I’m personally loving the playlist called “Christmas Jazz at the Coffee Shop” on Spotify right now just for some festive study music, and of course all the classics like Mariah Carey and Michael Bublé.
- Lights!
Whether you’re putting your lights outside or on a tree, or even changing the LED lights in your bedroom to red and green, holiday lights are so pretty to admire both indoors and outdoors.
- Holiday candles
It’s time to pull out all of your holiday scented candles! Whether your house is smelling like cinnamon or fresh pine, you’ll be feeling all the holiday vibes in no time with a festive candle.
- A warm, hearty soup
There’s nothing like a nice bowl of soup to satisfy your cravings this holiday season. Especially if you’re battling the sniffles, some chicken noodle soup will definitely make your tummy (and your sinuses) super happy.
- Fluffy socks
Personally, I love fluffy socks. They keep my feet extra warm whether I’m wandering the house or trekking in the snow. If you don’t have a pair yet, I’d highly recommend getting some!
- Snow
There’s no avoiding the snow, especially if you’re staying in Canada this year. Although the snow might be a pain to drive in, the holidays aren’t the same without a fresh white blanket of snow outside.
- Holiday movies
From October to December, the movie selection is immaculate; the transition from spooky Halloween movies to feel-good holiday films is something I personally look forward to every year. There’s nothing like watching a classic holiday movie with the people you love. After all, is it even the holidays if you don’t watch Home Alone a million times?
- Holiday desserts
Another exciting thing about holidays is baking with the people you love (or maybe even by yourself). If you have a sweet tooth like I do, then I’m sure you love indulging in all of the sugar cookies during the holidays! If baking isn’t your forte, maybe you look forward to watching the holiday baking shows on the Food Network instead.
