Unlike most college students, my day starts at around 7:15 am. That is the time when I wake up and start my morning routine. After I do all the easy activities (brush teeth, wash my face, shower) my least favourite part of the morning starts; picking an outfit. After wishing I had Cher’s closet machine in Clueless, I stand on my bed trying to see my whole outfit in the small mirror above my sink since I do not have a full-length mirror in my room this year. Once I finally finish, I go to the Canada Room at SMC for breakfast where the most essential part of my morning happens, drinking coffee.
My first class of the day usually starts at around 10 am. During my walk to class, I always listen to music; I have a walking-to-class playlist that has only one song: “All Too Well (Ten Minute Version)” by Taylor Swift. By the time I get to class, the song is usually finished, which helps me know it takes about 10 minutes to get to class. I try to get there about five minutes before it starts to give myself time to get ready to take notes. I usually take notes on my iPad (yes, I am an iPad kid) which I feel allows me to take better notes than on a computer, while also saving paper.
By the time my first class of the day is finished, I need another cup of coffee. I usually bring my own coffee but the Second Cup in Sid Smith has saved me on multiple occasions when I needed a boost to get me through the rest of the day. I usually only have an hour between classes during which I normally do the reading for the following class in the best library on campus, Gerstein. At Gerstein, I like to go to the bottom floor and sit near one of the windows; I love looking outside and people-watching. If I have enough time, I will also sit on one of the benches at the St. Michael’s College (SMC) Quad and read until my next class.
My final class of the day ends around 4 pm. When it ends, I walk back to SMC while listening to my walking-to-class playlist. Once I arrive back at my dorm, I make a list of things I need to do before I go to bed. My list usually consists of assignments and readings. This week was a little different because as the Events Coordinator of the St. Mike’s Residence Council, I have been doing final preparations for our pub night.
I get dinner at around 5 pm in the Canada Room. After dinner, I like taking advantage of the nice weather and read at the SMC Quad until about 6:30 pm. When I finally get back to my room for the night, I finish up items on my list. I try to be in bed by 9:30 pm, where I will usually watch YouTube until I fall asleep at around 10 pm.
