What might we expect from the new spider-man film?
Athena Bucci, The Mike Contributor
2021 will be the year of Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the new untitled Spider-man sequel scheduled for release on December 17th, 2021. Now that the third installment of the franchise has just started filming, there have been many rumors about what we can expect in the new film. Tom Holland is set to return as the lovable Peter Parker and the friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man for the third movie. Also set to return are Jacob Batalon, Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Jon Favereau, and Tony Revolori. This film will also feature Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange. There have been no updates yet as to an official title.
Though the film is more than a year away, here are the questions I have so far:
Who will be the villain Spider-man faces off?
It’s already been confirmed that Jamie Foxx will reprise his role as Electro from “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” however, many suspect that there may be more villains appearing in the film. Jon Watts, who directed the first two MCU Spider-Man films, has mentioned the idea of Kraven the Hunter, a villain from the Spider-man comics, as being one of Peter Parker’s adversaries. If Kraven does make an appearance in Spider-Man 3, it could be the introduction needed for the “Kraven the Hunter” spinoff.
What is Doctor Strange’s Purpose?
Peter needs a new Avenger to guide him through the superhero world. This role has been passed on to Doctor Strange. While this will be beneficial for Peter, the question remains: why Doctor Strange? He can open portals to different times and places in the universe and do the same with alternate dimensions. This could explain Electro’s reappearance, and Doctor Strange’s sequel set to come out in 2022.
Will we get a new Spider-Verse film?
While Marvel has yet to confirm anything, rumors have spread that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, who both played Spider-Man in the previous films, are reprising their roles as alternate Peter Parkers from within the multiverse. After the 2018 animated movie, “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse”, many fans have mixed feelings about the idea of a live action Spider-Verse film, especially if the protagonist of the animated version, Miles Morales, will not be there. Not to mention there is already a confirmed “Spider-verse” sequel coming out in 2022.
How will Peter deal with his identity revealed?
The ending of “Spider-Man: Far From Home” showed Mysterio revealing Peter’s identity to everyone in New York, and claiming him as a killer. Peter will be labeled as an outcast, not only to society, but his friends too. The police could even try to arrest him for murder. Maybe he will go to a different dimension to try and start everything over. It could explain how he meets the other Peters, how Electro ends up in the MCU, and the possibility of Electro and Kraven teaming up to take down Spider-Man.
